Activist-musician survives slay try in Pampanga
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga—An activist-musician and his wife survived an ambush, which wounded their companion, early Thursday, August 25, in this capital city.
“I think I was the target of this killing attempt,” Lenin Salas said in a phone interview, explaining he received several death threats after he was cleared of charges for illegal possession of firearms in February 2015.
Human rights advocates said Salas, 41, was the first victim under the Anti-Torture Law.
According to him, the ambush took place after his gig in one of the bars in this city. He was about to take a left turn to Mexico town when the suspects, who rode a motorcycle in tandem, fired gunshots, hitting his guest Mark John Paul Garcia, an electrician working in Saudi Arabia.
Salas survived by driving past the suspects.
