Classes in Batangas suspended due to ‘Florita’

LUCENA CITY—Classes at preschool and secondary levels in Batangas schools were suspended Wednesday due to the inclement weather brought by Severe Tropical Storm “Florita” (international name: Ma-on).
“Upon the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and in view of the the continuing inclement weather due to the effects of TS Florita (moderate to heavy rains), the Provincial Government of Batangas, as per Gov. DoDo Mandanas, declares that classes, in private and public schools, from kindergarten to senior high school, are suspended tomorrow, 24 August in the whole province of Batangas,” the provincial public information office, announced on Tuesday, 10 p.m. on its Facebook page.
On Tuesday, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) announced that President Bongbong Marcos suspended classes in public schools and work in government offices in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan, until Wednesday due to Florita.
The OPS said the same course of action for private schools and offices was left to the discretion of their respective heads.
In Quezon province, classes at all levels resumed Wednesday after being suspended on Tuesday.
In its 5 a.m. Wednesday bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration announced that Florita was out of the Philippine area of responsibility, but 11 areas in the country were still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.
