MANILA, Philippines — A shipment of suspected crystal meth or shabu weighing more than 21 kilograms with an estimated value of P144.3 million was seized from an alleged South African courier at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday, the Bureau of Customs said in a statement on Saturday.
Customs agents, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), monitored the unidentified man’s travels from South Africa and Qatar until his arrival at NAIA.
“The passenger’s luggage was subjected to K9 sweeping and X-ray scanning, resulting in the discovery of 21.215 kilos of shabu in his possession,” the BOC said.
The unidentified suspect is now in the custody of the PDEA for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
