PPCRV: Don’t reset barangay, SK polls
MANILA, Philippines – The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has expressed its “unequivocal” opposition to postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) set on Dec. 5 amid mounting calls from lawmakers for its rescheduling.
The group said the postponement of previous BSKEs that allowed incumbent leaders to hold power for up to five years was a “dangerous precedent” that deprived voters of their “right and critical need” to replace the undeserving.
“Unlike congressional and national leadership who may not be as accessible to the general citizenry, the barangay and its leaders are the government’s most tangible avenue for communication, redress, information, services and assistance. Their importance cannot be emphasized,” the PPCRV added.
