Vigan mayor tests positive for COVID-19

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Mayor Bonito Singson of Vigan City in Ilocos Sur province had tested positive for COVID-19, the government announced Thursday, August. 11.

In a public advisory, the Vigan government said Singson’s positive test result came out on Wednesday.

The mayor was experiencing the symptoms of the virus, it added.

But Singson said it would be business as usual at the city hall and that his office and all departments remained open to the public.

Residents there were reminded to maintain health protocols amid the sudden surge of virus transmission.

The latest data showed that Ilocos Sur has 151 active COVID-19 cases. At least 27 of these were from Vigan. INQ
