Flash floods hit village in Iriga City

LEGAZPI CITY – Heavy rains brought by thunderstorms triggered flash floods in Iriga City in Camarines Sur, rendering roads impassable.

Iriga City disaster risk reduction and management office (CDRRMO) said the flooding caused roads in village of Sta. Teresita to be impassable to motorists at around 3 p.m.

CDRRMO also said that the overflowing creeks in the area contributed to the flash floods.

The Sta. Teresita provincial highway to Hanawan road became passable at 3:40 p.m. but motorists were reminded of precautionary measures.

In the thunderstorm advisory issued at 1 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds were experienced over Northern Samar, Masbate, Camarines Sur, Marinduque, and parts of Albay and Catanduanes.

Pagasa also warned of possible flash floods and landslides in the said area.
