MANILA, Philippines — An additional 4,203 fresh infections of COVID-19 were logged by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, placing the current active tally to 37,492.

These new cases also further raised the country’s total caseload to 3,808,156 nationwide, with 3,709,377 recoveries and 60,837 deaths, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website.

This is higher than the average daily cases recorded from August 1 to August 7 at 3,904.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila continued to record the highest number of infections per region, by a large margin, in the last two weeks with 16,003 cases, followed by Calabarzon at 10,229, then by Central Luzon at 5,226.

Cavite also continued to top the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 3,427, followed by Quezon City, which recorded 3,401 and Laguna with 2,980.

Meanwhile, the tracker showed that only 14,122 individuals were tested for COVID-19 on Sunday, much lower than the average number of tests conducted, above 20,000. The tests on Sunday will reflect the number of cases recorded on Tuesday.

Low vaccination, booster turnout may lead to over 19,000 daily COVID cases by August
