MANILA, Philippines – The Senate of the Philippines has warned the public against Facebook and LinkedIn accounts purporting to be its legitimate accounts.

Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. on Saturday sounded the alarm over reports that several social media pages are claiming to be that of the “Senate of the Philippines,” and are mimicking its seal to disseminate false and misleading information.

“We take this opportunity to remind the public that the official Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages of the Senate of the Philippines are verified accounts and bear the ‘blue check marks’ that indicate authenticity. The Senate of the Philippines does not have an official LinkedIn page,” he said in a statement.

Bantug also assured that the Senate has already reported this concern to LinkedIn, and Facebook’s parent company Meta with hopes that they would immediately act on it.

“The Senate will take appropriate measures against any unauthorized use of its name and seal. We ask for vigilance against fake social media accounts and false information,” he added.
