SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — This province posted 49 new COVID-19 cases and was among the provinces that registered the highest number of new infections in the past week, independent analytics group OCTA Research said Monday, August 1.

Citing data from the Department of Health, OCTA said Zambales ranked 15 among the 20 provinces or regions with the highest weekly COVID-19 tally, which the National Capital Region tops.

On Sunday alone, the province logged 10 new COVID-19 cases, raising to 90 its active infections.

All 13 towns in the province have active cases, data from the provincial health office showed.

Zambales has already registered 11,928 COVID-19 cases since 2020. Of this figure, 11,136 were already recovered, while 702 were deaths.

Aside from Zambales, other Central Luzon provinces that were on the list included Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, and Tarlac. INQ
