Physician in former mayor’s slay moved to Payatas jail
MANILA, Philippines — Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol who is accused of killing three people and injuring another during a graduation ceremony at the Ateneo University in Quezon City last week was transferred to the Quezon City Jail in Payatas on Saturday.
Supt. Xavier Solda, spokesperson for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, said Yumol was moved to Payatas from the Quezon City Police District detention center in Camp Karingal.
He is accused of killing former Lamitan City Mayor Rosita Furigay, her aide Victor Capistrano and Ateneo security guard Jeneven Bandiala.
He is also charged with the frustrated murder of Furigay’s daughter, Hannah Rose, who was supposed to graduate from the Ateneo Law School.
Also on Saturday, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos ordered the Philippine National Police to tighten security in Lamitan City in Basilan after the killing of Yumul’s father Rolando Yumol.
