1 dead, 5 hurt, 7 missing after hanging bridge collapse in Cavite

LUCENA CITY—A teenager died, five were injured, and seven others were still missing after a hanging bridge collapsed on Tuesday, July 26, in Dasmariñas City in Cavite province, police reported Wednesday.

Colonel Arnold Abad, Cavite police chief, identified the casualty in a report as John Michael Beltran, 17.

A Cavite police report said at least 13 persons were crossing the hanging bridge at Tabing Ilog Sitio Talisayan in Barangay Sampaloc 4 when the structure collapsed around 9 p.m., and the bridge crossers fell down the river below.

At least five—Jeralden Pacia, 16; Lester Neri, 16; Generos Pacia, 16; Danica Uy, 12; and Lyka Briones, 18—were rescued and taken to Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas for treatment.

The police said seven others were still missing and are now the subjects of search-and-rescue operations.
