MANILA, Philippines — The woman who went viral after being seen crawling out of a sewer in Makati City is now under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The DSWD said in a statement that the woman, identified only as “Bibe,” arrived in their Pag-abot Processing Center in Pasay City on Thursday morning after the team was able to find and interview her.

“At the processing center, she will undergo a thorough assessment and appropriate intervention by the DSWD, based on her situation and needs,” the DSWD said.

“This is based on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the DSWD to provide comprehensive intervention to the woman so that she does not return to the streets,” it added.

On Tuesday, a post by RoughMasterpiecei about the woman who was seen crawling from a sewer went viral after netizens associated it with a fictional character, “Sadako.”

According to the Makati City Police Station, the incident took place around 4:16 p.m. on Monday.

The police added that Bibe was believed to be a street dweller or “taong grasa,” who was known to rest in a canal near Makati Medical Center.

Meanwhile, the Makati police said that closed-circuit television footage of the area revealed that not just one, but three people were seen entering the canal through the drainage opening on Monday.

Investigation is still ongoing to establish the identities and intent of these individuals, the police added. /das
