MANILA, Philippines – Leyte’s alleged third most wanted fugitive, who is facing rape charges, was arrested on Thursday during a police operation, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
PNP officer-in-charge, Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., in a statement on Thursday said that the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) arrested the suspect in Brgy. Talinhugon, Dagami, Leyte.
Danao added that the operation was conducted by the AKG-led Ormoc Satellite Office, and personnel of the Dagami Municipal Police Station and Intelligence Unit.
Police said 39-year-old Rogelio Tonido is listed as the third most wanted person in the Leyte province and is accused of rape.
The suspect was served a warrant of arrest for three counts of rape with no recommended bail, police said.
The warrant was dated July 18, issued by Judge Catherine Lopez-Vanilla of the Regional Trial Court Branch 15 in Burauen, Leyte.
“I commend the operating troops for another job well done. The arrest of most wanted persons proves to show that our society is certainly not a safe haven for criminals,” Danao said. – Christine Annie Asistio, INQUIRER.net intern
