The PNP says 10 alleged communist rebels surrendered in Northern Samar

MANILA, Philippines — Ten alleged communist rebels have surrendered in Northern Samar, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

According to the PNP, the alleged rebels surrendered to members of the Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company, Northern Samar Police Provincial Office, and other operatives in Barangay Magsaysay, Lope de Vega town earlier Friday.

It also said that police seized from the surrenderees the following firearms:

“These rebel returnees were identified to be members of Squad 2, Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) Platoon, FC-2 Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) EMPORIUM,” PNP-officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr said in a statement Friday.

“They were brought to 43rd IB, 8ID, PA while surrendered firearms are now under the custody of Northern Samar PPO Supply for proper disposition,” he added.

The PNP reiterated that it supports the government’s anti-insurgency program through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

“We welcome the gesture of peace and goodwill of our surrendered, and we assure them that we are here to help them rebuild their future as they reintegrate [into] the mainstream of society,” Danao said. – Nicole Faye Agcaoili, INQUIRER.net intern
