3 dead, 1 hurt in Southern Luzon road crashes

LUCENA CITY – Three motorcycle riders died in separate road accidents on Thursday and Friday (July 21 and July 22) in Batangas, Laguna and Rizal provinces, police reports said.

The police in Calamba City, Laguna reported that motorcycle rider Mark Nathaniel Guevarra and his back-rider, Lizelle Cabrillas, were traveling in Barangay Turbina when a truck in the opposite lane hit them around 12:15 a.m. Friday

Due to the impact, both motorcycle riders were thrown from their vehicle, landed on the pavement and sustained injuries.

Guevara died while being taken to JP Rizal Hospital in the city.

Noel Guarino, the truck driver, was detained and is facing criminal charges.

In Cainta town, Rizal, police reported that motorcycle rider Gilbert Cruz was accidentally hit by a sport utility vehicle driven by Rysher Jane Abedejos along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Barangay San Juan around 5:50 p.m. on Thursday.

Cruz died on the way to Cainta Hospital. Abedejos is under police custody.

Meanwhile, rider Marlon Gonzaga lost control of his motorcycle while descending in a curved portion of the road in Barangay Banilad in Nasugbu town, Batangas around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

The wayward vehicle subsequently rammed into a steel post on the roadside. Gonzaga suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.
