MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Yogi Filemon Ruiz as acting commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the Palace announced Thursday.

Ruiz took his oath before Marcos on Wednesday, according to Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. swore into office yesterday 20 July 2022, Yogi Filemon Ruiz as Acting Commissioner, Bureau of Customs,” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.

Prior to his post as acting BOC commissioner, Ruiz served as the bureau’s director of enforcement and security services and was in charge of the customs police.

Before joining the Customs, Ruiz also previously served as regional director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Visayas.

As head of PDEA Region 7, Ruiz made news after he admitted to ordering inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center to strip down naked while being searched during a surprise inspection in February 2017, earning the ire of human rights groups.
