MANILA, Philippines — A minor landslide destroyed a variety store on Cuasay Road in Barangay Central Signal in Taguig and prompted the evacuation of some residents on Tuesday afternoon, according to the city’s Public Information Office.

The landslide occurred at around 2 p.m.

“Fortunately, no one was seriously injured or killed in the incident,“ the PIO said in Filipino.

The city immediately deployed its quick response team, engineers, and social workers to assess the damage and ensure the safety of the people in the area.

The area was declared a “danger zone” and was closed to the public.

“Accelerated soil erosion due to excavations done by some residents in the area and accumulated water caused by rainfall are considered to be the cause of the landslide,” the PIO said.

City hall reminded residents to conduct a routine check for damage to their homes or workplaces, especially this rainy season, and comply with obtaining a building permit before constructing or repairing houses and other buildings.
