Comelec records over 1.7 million new voter registrants
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said it recorded a total of 1,712,315 new voter registrants as of July 18.
This was based on a data bulletin sent by Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, which showed that out of the new registrants, 547,389 new voters were from the 18 to 30 years old age group while 91,079 were over 31 years old.
Meanwhile, the rest belonged to the 15 to 17 years old bracket.
With this, the total projected barangay voters (ages 18 years old and above) is now at 66,053,357, including new registrants, said Laudiango.

Article continues after this advertisement“Given these latest high turn-out of applicants, we believe that by July 23, 2022, we will be able to reach our secondary/recalibrated total new registrants for both BGY and SK of 2,067,351,” said Laudiangco in a message to reporters.
Article continues after this advertisementThe data also showed that a total of 2,256,868 applications were processed as of July 18. The applications include registrations, transfer of voter registration, transfer from overseas voting to local voting, and reactivation.
“We had already reached and exceeded the original target of 1 million new voters/applicants. Therefore, given this high turn out exceeding the original projected target, it is proper to consider recalibrated estimates in order to properly plan for and execute election preparatory activities,” said Laudiangco.
The ongoing voter’s registration started on July 4 and is set only until Saturday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The registration was reopened in time for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which is set on December 5, 2022.
