DENR welcomes nomination of Loyzaga

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) welcomed the nomination of Ma. Antonia Yulo Loyzaga as its new secretary.

DENR officer in charge Secretary Ernesto Adobo Jr. said he was looking forward to Loyzaga’s leadership and expressed optimism that climate actions would be further strengthened.

“The DENR family looks forward to the effective and efficient implementation of the department’s mandate under the new secretary’s leadership. With her expertise and competence in climate and disaster resilience, I see better days ahead for the environment and for the Filipino people,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Last week, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nominated Loyzaga, former chair of the International Advisory Board of Manila Observatory, to lead the DENR.

Loyzaga previously served as executive director of Manila Observatory and technical adviser of the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation. She is currently a member of the Senior Advisory Board of the Command and General Staff College of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Several environmental groups like Greenpeace Philippines, Masungi Georeserve Foundation, and Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment earlier welcomed Loyzaga’s appointment.
