PH logs over 2,000 daily COVID-19 cases for 3rd straight day

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded 2,578 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the third consecutive day that the country logged over 2,000 infections.

The country registered 2,588 and 2,371 fresh cases on July 15 and 14, respectively, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

The country’s total cases are now at 3,730,545.

No new fatality was logged while 1,675 more patients have recovered from COVID-19.

The death and recovery tally stood at 60,641 and 3,650,914, respectively.

The figures bring the number of active cases in the country to 18,990.

According to independent analytics group Octa Research fellow Dr. Guido David, most of the fresh infections recently recorded were from Metro Manila.

Of the 2,578 new COVID-19 cases, 916 were from the National Capital Region.

Cavite, meanwhile, listed 200 fresh infections.

Four provinces have posted more than 100 new cases: Laguna, 174; Rizal, 173; Iloilo, 161; and Batangas, 101.

Despite the rise in cases, Metro Manila currently remains under the most lenient COVID-19 Alert Level 1.

The DOH last week assured that all areas in the country fall under the “low risk” classification because of the low number of severe and critical cases and the average daily attack rate.
