COVID-19 active infections jump to 16,244, after 2,371 new cases

The current active infections of COVID-19 jumped to 16,244, after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 2,371 cases on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — The current active infections of COVID-19 jumped to 16,244 after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 2,371 cases on Thursday.

Based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website, active cases on Wednesday were only 14,862.

With the new infections, however, the country’s caseload has risen to 3,725,382 nationwide, with 3,648,497 recoveries and 60,641 deaths.

The new cases are also higher than the number of infections recorded on Wednesday, which was 1,604, and the average number of infections recorded from July 4 to 10 at 1,467.

Metro Manila still led in the list of regions with the most number of infections in the past two weeks with 8,598 cases, followed by Calabarzon with 4,212, and Western Visayas with 1,735.

Quezon City also continued to dominate the list of cities with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 1,709, followed by Cavite at 1,496 and Manila with 1,098.

Previously, the Department of Health (DOH) predicted that cases could reach as high as 17,000 by the end of July nationwide if minimum public health standards further declined.
