MANILA, Philippines — Scattered rains will be heaped on the southeastern section of Mindanao on Saturday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), said the state weather bureau.

An early morning public forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that Davao Region and Soccsksargen (Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat) will encounter ITCZ-induced weather throughout the day.

“Sa kasalukuyan, ITCZ iyong nakakaapekto dito sa southeastern part ng Mindanao, so makararanas sila ng makulimlim na panahon na may kalat-kalat na mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog,” weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said.

(The ITCZ is currently affecting the southeastern part of Mindanao, so expect overcast skies with sporadic rains, lightning, and thunderstorms in the area.)

He likewise noted that the slightly weakened southwest monsoon or habagat will still be influencing weather conditions in the western part of Northern Luzon, which may trigger partly cloudy skies and isolated rainfall.

Fair weather, on the other hand, is expected in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, but Bulquerin warned that rains and thunderstorms may still occur especially from afternoon to evening.

Pagasa has not issued a gale warning over the country’s seaboards, which points to safe sailing conditions across the archipelago.
