MANILA, Philippines — The national weekly positivity rate for COVID-19 infection jumped to 10.6 percent, said the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, with 10 regions recording a positivity rate over the international threshold of 5 percent.

The DOH stated this in its latest COVID-19 situationer, showing a continuous increase in the number of cases recorded per day from July 8 to July 14.

“National case trend shows continuous increase now averaging more than 1,700 cases per day in the recent week,” said the DOH.

Of all regions, 10 have already recorded positivity rates past the World Health Organization’s (WHO) threshold of 5 percent — Calabarzon led with 14.4 percent, followed by Metro Manila with 13.0 percent, Western Visayas with 11.7 percent, Central Luzon with 11.5 percent, Mimaropa with 11.1 percent, CAR with 7.3 percent, Cagayan Valley with 6.9 percent, Ilocos Region with 6.7 percent, Central Visayas with 6.5 percent, and Northern Mindanao with 5.2 percent.

Most areas also showed a sharp increase in cases with Metro Manila showing the “steepest” increase, now recording 750 cases per day.

Still at ‘low risk’ for COVID transmission

While most regions have shown continued increase in cases, the DOH asserted that healthcare utilization rates remained low and cases of severe and critical COVID-19 admissions remained less than 1 percent.

With this, all regions continue to remain under “low risk” classification, since average daily attack rates in all regions are still at low risk, as well as the healthcare utilization rates.

Apart from this, deaths have also been reported to be in a continued decline from January, averaging about one death per day in May 2022.

Vaccination status

Meanwhile, a total of 71,203,134 individuals (91.17 percent of target population) have now been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The number of individuals with booster shots, however, translate only to 19.81 percent of the target population at 15,468,421.

As of July 14, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload is now at 3,725,382, with 16,244 active cases, 3,648,497 recoveries and 60,641 deaths.
