MANILA, Philippines — Agricultural damage and losses in Ifugao have reached P14.6 million after flash floods, induced by the southwest monsoon or habagat, ravaged the province.
In a report released Sunday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said that the damages affected 684 farmers, with production loss volume at 728 metric tons and 198 hectares of agricultural areas, as of July 9, 6 p.m.
Rice and high-value crops are among the affected commodities.
To help affected farmers recover from the destruction, the DA will provide rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds and drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry.
The agency will also roll out the Survival and Recovery Program of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council.
Available funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation will be given to affected farmers for indemnification, DA said.
The DA will likewise provide a Quick Response Fund for the rehabilitation of affected areas.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council earlier reported that three individuals were injured by flash floods and mudslides in Banaue town in Ifugao after the habagat triggered heavy rains. Around 500 families were also affected by the incident.
