DIGOS CITY—A bus owned by the Maco municipal government in Davao de Oro province bumped and killed a man walking along the national highway in Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur, on Saturday.

Police said the incident happened at around 12:10 a.m. in Barangay Darong.

Maj. Kristine Miraña, Santa Cruz police chief, said the bus, driven by Reynaldo Boaquin Yuson, 43, was headed in the direction of Davao City.

She identified man as Jonathan Punso, 35, a construction worker from Barangay Guihing, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.

Emergency responders rushed Punso to a hospital in Santa Cruz town, where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

The driver is currently under the custody of Santa Cruz Police Station where the bus was also impounded.
