DOH reports 98 percent rise in Bicol dengue cases
LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol has recorded a 98 percent uptick in dengue cases from January 1 to July 2 compared to the same period last year.
In a report released on Wednesday, July 6, DOH Bicol said 753 cases were recorded from January 1 to July 2, while 380 cases were recorded in the same period of monitoring in 2021.
The report said most of the patients were 6 to 10 years old while two adults had died.
Dr. Ferchito Avelino, DOH Bicol assistant chief, said local government units should focus on the massive search and destroy of mosquito breeding sites especially in areas with no proper waste disposal system.
“The proper garbage collection would help eliminate the breeding sites of the mosquitos. The local government units should give attention to this, with the help of their constituents,” he said.
