MANILA, Philippines — The P75.25-million concrete road project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) provided better access to agri-tourism sites and alternate routes for quick transportation in Central Iloilo—boosting their economic and tourism growth and development.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said on Wednesday, that the new 1.358-kilometer road built in Barangay (village) Manasa offered a vital road contribution as it enabled easier transportation and delivery of agricultural products and allowed access to agri-tourism sites to locals and tourists.

“This concrete road offers vital road contribution towards economic development and growth in the highlands of Alimodian and neighboring towns as it facilitates hastened delivery of vegetables and other agricultural products,” Bonoan said in a statement.

Bonoan added that the road project provided an alternate route to the seven organic vegetable-producing barangays (villages), also known as the “Seven Cities” in the municipality of Alimodian.

With this, the farmers in the uplands of Alimodian are now able to quickly transport and deliver their agricultural products such as vegetables and crops to other towns.

Local visitors and tourists have better access to popular sites, one of which is the “Little Baguio of Iloilo,” the Bucari Pine Forest, and to the waterfalls in the town of Leon.

The said project implemented by the DPWH was funded under the FY 2020 Local Infrastructure Program (LIP). —Andy Hoo, INQUIRER.net trainee
