Zambales town braces for heavy rain due to 'Caloy'

SAN MARCELINO, Zambales—This town’s government on Wednesday (June 29) activated all its units involved in responding to emergencies and disasters in preparation for the possible impact of Tropical Depression “Caloy.”

The town’s Public Information Office said Mayor Elvis Ragadio Soria had directed the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to ensure public safety, as Caloy was expected to dump moderate to heavy rain and cause lightning and strong winds in the province.

In an advisory at 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Caloy was almost stationary over the West Philippine Sea and was enhancing the southwest monsoon.

The state weather bureau said the center of Caloy was located some 470 kilometers west of Iba town, the province’s capital.

Residents in Zambales, Bataan, and Cavite were advised to take precautionary measures since flash floods and landslides were possible.
