MANILA, Philippines — Expect overcast skies and all-day rain over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, as well as Visayas, on Wednesday due to a low-pressure area (LPA) hovering over the West Philippine Sea and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

This was the latest forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), which also said it last spotted the LPA right above the West Philippine Sea some 420 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

“Kung sakali man na ito ay maging isang bagyo sa susunod na 24 oras, posibleng ito ay papalabas na o nasa labas na rin ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR),” said Pagasa weather specialist Ana Clauren.

(If it becomes a typhoon in the next 24 hours, it may be near or already outside PAR.)

The state weather bureau also noted it is monitoring a cloud cluster over the eastern portion of Luzon that may intensify into an LPA within the next 24 to 48 hours. This LPA and the other LPA above the West Philippine Sea are anticipated to enhance the southwest monsoon further, Pagasa warned.

“Dahil dito asahan natin bukas sa ka-Maynilaan pati na rin sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon ang maghapong pagulan at mataas na tiyansa ng kalat-kalat na pagulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog dahil sa LPA at habagat,” explained Clauren.

(Because of this, we expect rain all over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon all day tomorrow [Wednesday], and a high chance of scattered rain with lightning and thunder due to the LPA and the southwest monsoon.)

Clauren likewise said the southwest monsoon is predicted to bring cloudy skies and rain throughout the Visayas.

On the other hand, Mindanao may experience generally fair weather despite chances of rain by Wednesday afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms, Clauren added.

As for the country’s seaboards, Pagasa did not raise any gale warning even if the state weather service expects moderate to rough sea conditions around Luzon and Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Wednesday would be the following:

  • Metro Manila: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 16 to 22 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
