Maguindanao village councilor slain in gun attack

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao — Police authorities here have launched a manhunt against two men who shot dead a village councilman on Monday.

Macmod Masiangal, councilor of Labungan village here, was walking toward the barangay hall about 11 a.m. on Monday, June 27, when two men riding in tandem on a motorbike appeared from behind and shot him, according to Lt. Guiseppe Tamayo, town deputy police chief.

Tamayo said police and military troops were now pursuing the perpetrators.

Masiangal was the first village councilman killed this year and the second since October last year when a councilman of Pandag, Maguindanao was killed in an ambush in Datu Odin Sinsuat town.

In another ambush incident on Monday, two victims on board a motorbike were shot by gunmen on a separate motorbike along the borders of Parang and Buldon towns of Maguindanao at 4 p.m.

The victims were now recuperating at a hospital in Cotabato City, police said.
