2 dead, 4 hurt in Pampanga fluvial parade mishap

APALIT, Pampanga—Two men died, while four others were injured from electrocution when their boat participating in the fluvial parade on Tuesday, June 28, in this town hit a high-tension wire, authorities said.

Colonel Alvin Consolacion, Pampanga police director, identified one of the fatalities as alias “Nyote Ponsenes,” who was about 40 years old. The other fatality has yet to be named and was around 30 years old, Consolacion said.

The injured were Maria Christian Javier-Torres, 58; Mia Franz Simbulan, 11; Dwayne Cortez, 11, and Elizabeth Javier, 41, of Barangay Sucad in Apalit. Rescuers rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The motor of the boat hit a protruding wire and exploded at past 2 p.m., a police report showed. The passengers got electrocuted.

The wire belonged to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
