Cyclist dead after 10-wheeler truck hits bike in Rizal

LUCENA CITY – A bicycle rider died after he was hit by a passing truck on Friday, June 24, in San Mateo town in Rizal province, police said Saturday.

The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police said cyclist Felipe Montalban was about to cross the road in Barangay (village) Banaba around 11 a.m. when a ten-wheeler truck driven by Ronaldo Icamina accidentally hit the bike Montalban was riding.

Montalban sustained grave injuries and was taken to St. Matthew Hospital but died along the way.

The truck driver voluntarily surrendered to the police and is facing criminal charges.
