LEGAZPI CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded 47 volcanic earthquakes on Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon the past 24 hours, more than the 22 recorded in the previous monitoring period.

In its bulletin on Saturday, Phivolcs said the sulfur dioxide (SO2) flux was recorded at 424 tons on June 24.

The volcano emitted 751 tons of SO2 on June 23.

Moderate plume emissions reached 350 meters high, drifting west-northwest and northwest.

Phivolcs said another phreatic eruption is possible as the volcano’s edifice is still inflated and remains under Alert Level 1.

Last June 5 and 12, the volcano had phreatic eruptions which caused ash falls in the towns of Juban, Irosin, Magallanes and Casiguran.
