LUCENA CITY—Two alleged big-time marijuana traffickers were arrested Thursday, June 23, and yielded P1.6 million worth of “weeds” in Taytay town in Rizal province.
Police Colonel Dominic Baccay, Rizal cop chief, said in a report that operatives from the provincial police intelligence unit (PIU) nabbed Jomar Vergara and Edgardo Claudio in a buy-bust at 4:15 a.m. in a subdivision in Barangay Dolores.
The police seized 16 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated street value of P1.6 million.
The police tagged Vergara and Claudio, both of Antipolo City, as on the list of high-value individuals in the local drug trade.
Baccay said the PIU operatives received information that the suspects were behind the proliferation of marijuana in the area.
The cops conducted close monitoring and surveillance operation that lasted for three weeks.
Baccay said the operatives learned that payment for marijuana and other illegal drugs was through online platforms.
Police were tracking the source of the weeds.
Both suspects are under police custody and will face charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
