18 held as cops bust illegal cockfights in Bataan
BALANGA CITY—Police in Bataan province raided two illegal cockfighting venues in separate operations on Sunday, June 19, and arrested 18 people.
Colonel Romell Velasco, Bataan police director, said the illegal cockfights were held at Barangay Central in this city and at Barangay JC Payumo in Dinalupihan town.
Confiscated from the suspects were eight-game fowl, two gaffs, a dead cock, and P7,670 in bet money.
Velasco said those arrested, many of them senior citizens, were turned over to the Balanga and Dinalupihan police stations before the filing of charges for violation of Presidential Decree 449, which prohibits the holding of illegal cockfighting, or “tupada.”
