LOOK: Robin Padilla takes oath as senator before President Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — Political rookie Robin Padilla took his oath as senator before President Rodrigo Duterte.

His wife, actress Mariel Rodriguez on Friday posted in Instagram several photos of the actor’s oathtaking which was held in Malacañang on Thursday night.

Padilla was accompanied by Rodriguez, their two children — Isabella and Gabriella — and Padilla’s mother Lolita Eva Carino.

“Robin’s Oath taking last night with PRRD. Maraming maraming salamat po Mr.President!!!” Mariel wrote on Instagram.

Further in the caption, Mariel wrote that she knows Padilla will be an “amazing and effective senator.”

She added that she knows her husband is “born to be great” and “destined to excel.”

“We are sooo sooo sooo proud of you @robinhoodpadilla I KNOW you will be an amazing and effective Senator. All eyes [are] on you… but that’s okay we like challenges,” Mariel said.

“When you were taking your oath, I told myself Robin was born to be GREAT. Meron talagang mga tao na destined to excel… si Robin ganun,” she added.

(There are people who are destined to excel and Robin is like that.)

“You got this babe! We are behind you, beside you and with you all the way. God speed! Allah hu Akbar!,” she continued.

Padilla, an actor, won as the top candidate for senator in the May 9 elections. This will be his first stint in politics.

He earlier admitted being ready to face deliberations in the Senate, saying he is used to having debates with his wife.

He added that he will only debate in Filipino since he would be facing Filipino legislators, “not Americans.”
