Motorcycle back-rider dead, 7 injured in Quezon mishap

LUCENA CITY––A motorcycle back-rider died, and seven other motorists were injured in a road accident Tuesday, June 7, in Candelaria town in Quezon province, police said.

Candelaria police reported that Deo Pasamba, 28, was riding a motorcycle driven by Jaylord Fortuna when a van, driven by Daniel Perez, hit the vehicle at 1 a.m. along Candelaria-San Juan road in Barangay Sta. Catalina Sur.

Due to the impact, both riders were thrown off the vehicle and landed on the pavement. Pasamba died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

The van also hit a tricycle driven by Raniel Ambita carrying five passengers, who suffered injuries. All the injured were taken to Peter Paul Medical Center in the town center for treatment.

Perez was under the custody of the local police, and authorities impounded his van.

The police are conducting further investigation.
