Over 2,500 guns, weapons seized during election period in Central Luzon
OLONGAPO CITY––At least 2,647 long and short firearms, including deadly weapons and explosives, were confiscated in Central Luzon during the election period, authorities said Monday, June 6.
Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, Police Regional Office 3 director, said, in a statement, that his office seized 328 assorted firearms and 2,319 deadly weapons and explosives.
At least 400 gun ban violators were arrested from Jan. 9 to June 5.
“We are still continuously conducting regular checkpoints even after the election period ends on June 8 to ensure peace and security in the region..,” Baccay said.
He added: “I appeal to the public to cooperate with us in the conduct of checkpoint operations, and at the same time, I urged the public to be alert and vigilant while passing through our checkpoints and immediately report any possible irregularities by our police personnel.”
