Lawmaker presses bid to suspend oil tax collection
MANILA, Philippines — Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate on Sunday reiterated a call to suspend oil excise tax collection and regulate the downstream oil industry.
In a statement, Zarate said he anticipated more price hikes in oil products and basic commodities.
“We maintain our stand that to effectively address the current oil price crisis, the best way to go is to again regulate the downstream oil industry in our country,” he pointed out.
He added: “But for immediate relief to our people, we call on the next Congress and the next administration to immediately pass a law that will suspend the collection of the excise taxes.”
