QC puts up People’s Council
Reelected Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has inducted the interim executive committee officers of the city’s People’s Council recently, city hall said in a statement on Thursday.
The council will serve as an “umbrella” of a total of 2,232 civil society organizations accredited by the city government and these groups will be a part of citizen engagement.
Belmonte said that the people’s council will also serve as the “eyes, ears and voice” of the city residents in their governance.
The formal assumption of the officers for the people’s council came after Belmonte signed the implementing rules and regulations of the ordinance, known as the Participation, Accountability and Transparency Ordinance, which “strengthens and institutionalizes” the system of partnership between the city government and its constituents. —Dempsey Reyes
