Cop busted for drugs in Iloilo City; yielded P374,000 worth of ‘shabu’

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was arrested in Iloilo City following a buy-bust operation, where he yielded P374,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “shabu.”
Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. identified the suspect as Police Staff Sergeant Igmedio Lasala Cristobal Jr, 40. He was apprehended during the drug sting conducted in VML Subdivision, North Fundidor in Molo district.
Police operatives confiscated from the suspect 17 sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing about 55 grams with an estimated value of P374,000 as well as other illegal drug paraphernalia.
The arrested police officer and the seized illegal drug and other pieces of evidence were turned over to the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6 (RPDEU 6) for documentation and proper disposition.
Danao ordered the filing of administrative complaints against Cristobal, saying such a misconduct by a member of the PNP could be punished with dismissal from service.
“Ang pagkahuli kay PSSg Cristobal ay babala para sa iba pang kasamahan natin na hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin tumitigil sa paggawa ng iligal at labag sa batas,” said Danao.
(The arrest of PSSg Cristobal is a warning to our other colleagues who until now have not stopped committing illegal activities.)
“Sa ilalim ng aking pamumuno ay titiyakin ko at hindi magdadalawang isip na tanggalin sa serbisyo at kasuhan ang sinumang mahuhuli at mapatunayang sangkot sa iligal na gawain lalong-lalo na ang iligal na droga,” he added.
