Belmonte wins by wide margin over Defensor – QC Board of Canvassers
MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Joy Belmonte was officially proclaimed as the winner for another term in the Quezon City top post at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
She was proclaimed by the Quezon City Board of Canvassers, led by Chairperson Lope Gayo Jr., and Vice Chair Vimar Barcellano, and Member-Secretary Jenilyn Corpus.
Belmonte got 662,661 votes with a margin of over 230,000 votes over rival Defensor.
In a statement, Belmonte thank all “QCitizens” for their renewed trust and support for her continuing reform agenda.
“ Your votes are a clear indication that you are benefitting from our numerous programs and projects during the past three years,” she said. “Further, you are telling me to proceed with these changes including continued good governance in city hall.”
Article continues after this advertisementBelmonte also promised her constituents that they could expect another next three years of “intensified services” from the city government.
Article continues after this advertisement“Admittedly, it will be hard to correct old and corrupt systems, but we are committed to serve to the best of our abilities, all QCitizens, no matter what their political affiliation may be,” she said. “We will exert all efforts to double up our services, with help of all our teammates in Sebisyo ng Bayan Party (SBP), with Vice Mayor-elect Gian Sotto, our winning congressmen, and councilors.”
“I would like to reiterate that, in working together, each and every QCitizen are included in our drive for progress. And with this unity, our beloved city will continue to attain prosperity and greatness. Again, thank you very much for continued trust,” she said.
Belmonte’s SBP and Team Aksyon includes Sotto, five House representatives, and a supermajority of winning councilors in the recent elections.
