MANILA, Philippines — The camp of independent presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson scored Monday what they branded as fake news claiming he has withdrawn from the presidential race.

Lacson’s spokesman Ashley Acedillo said their initial information indicated the fake information was being peddled in parts of Bulacan as of early Monday morning.

“Even now, on Election Day, some parties have still not desisted from circulating fake news claiming independent presidential candidate Sen. Ping Lacson has withdrawn from the race,” Acedillo said in a statement.

“That is simply not true. Not only was Senator Lacson among the first of the presidential candidates to cast his vote this morning – which he did at Bayan Luma 1 Elementary School in his hometown of Imus, Cavite – he has also settled into monitoring the events of today unfold through the Command Center of the Lacson Sotto Support Group,” he added.

Lacson cast his vote at 7 a.m. Monday. He was the first among the presidential candidates to cast his vote.

Acedillo said it is time for those behind such fake news to stop their malicious activity. “Tigilan n’yo na yan (Just stop it),” he said.
