GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — With the May 9 elections just two days away, presidential candidate Senator Manny Pacquiao is not feeling any anxiety.
Whatever the results of the ever-near May 9 elections, Pacquiao on Saturday said he is ready to face it “like a boxer.”
For now, he said he is not anxious about it and places his hopes on the Lord.
Pacquiao is confident that he was able to send his plans and platforms across and it reached the poor, who needed to hear it most.
“Ngayon, sa tingin ko, nadama ng mga mahihirap na tao yung gusto kong mangyari sa ating bansa. Nadama ng mahihirap na tao yung intention ko, bakit lumaban ang Manny Pacquiao. At hindi ito laban ko, laban ito ng mga mahihirap na tao,” the senator said in a press briefing here.
(For now, I think, the poor people were able to feel what I wanted to happen in our country. They felt what was my intention, why I fought in this elections. This is not my fight, it is the fight of the poor people. )
“Hindi ako kinakabaan. Ang Panginoon natin, can do mighty things that we cannot imagine,” he added when asked if he is feeling anxious, especially that elections is only two days away.
(I am not nervous. Our Lord can do mighty things that we cannot imagine.)
Whatever the results are, he said he is ready to accept it, however, he warned voters that they may regret it if they vote for candidates who do not truly love the country and have experienced the suffering they do.
“Boksingero ako. Sanay naman ako sa kahit ano na paligsahan. Kung ano ‘yung desisyon ng tao. Pero ang pagsisisi, laging nasa huli. Lagi tayong nagsisisi mula noon hanggang ngayon kaya huwag muna tayo magsisi ngayon,” Pacquiao said.
(I am a boxer. I am used to whatever contest there is. I am letting the people decide. But remember, regret is always at the end. We have always regretted our decisions, so let’s not repeat our mistakes now.)
“Bumoto tayo nang maayos sa tunay na nagmamahal sa bayan at na-experience ang hirap ng buhay. Lahat ng klase ng buhay na na-experience ko,” the senator added.
(Let’s vote wisely, let’s vote for someone who truly loves our nation and have experienced how hard it is to survive. I have experienced all kinds of life.)
He said he is confident with his victory in the elections as he is confident in his victories when he was still boxing.
“Ganun din ang kumpiyansa ko. Alam ko mas maraming mahihirap na nangangailangan kay Manny Pacquiao,” he said.
(My confidence level is the same. I know that many poor people need Manny Pacquiao.)
Pacquiao thanked his supporters and all those who believed in him, especially the volunteers who helped him in his campaign, saying that should he win in the May 9 polls, it would be their victory as well.
“At the end of the day, ang ating tagumpay ay tagumpay din nila. Kasama ko sila sa paglikha ng kasaysayan ng pulitka dito sa ating bansa, na maayos at malinis na paggobyerno,” he said.
(At the end of the day, my victory is also theirs. I am with them in the making of history in the politics here in the country — a clean and orderly government.)
He reiterated that voters should vote for him as he is fighting not for himself but for the nation, adding that he only wants the country to improve.
“Kung gusto niyo ng tunay na pagbabago, na matagal na nating inaasahan, samahan niyo si Manny Pacquiao, para makita niyo ang tunay na pagbabago at madisiplina pa natin lahat ng mga nagsasamantala diyan na matagal na at yumayaman sila,”Pacquiao said.
(If you want true change, which we have been looking for for a long time, join me, so that you can see the true change and we can discipline erring officials who take advantage of their positions for their personal gains.)
Pacquiao stuck to his vow of cleansing the government of corrupt officials.
He held his final campaign sortie, the second leg of his miting de avance, in his hometown General Santos City on Saturday.
