MANILA, Philippines — If elected, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be a president of all Filipinos—regardless of political color, his spokesman said Friday.

Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos Jr.’ spokesperson, said this when asked about those who fear the return of another Marcos in Malacañang.

“Bongbong Marcos will be the president of all Filipinos regardless of your political color. That is why he is the only candidate who, from the get-go, from the very beginning, already said that his is a unifying brand of leadership,” Rodriguez said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

“It is there in his speech when we announced his candidacy. ‘Yun ang liderato at panguluhan that will define and guide a Bongbong Marcos presidency if and when he will be blessed to have and enjoy the mandate of the majority of the Filipino people on Monday,” he added.

Marcos Jr. is the son of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. who implemented martial law during his term.

Asked how he would explain to the youth of today the martial law era under his father, the younger Marcos earlier said it would be best for today’s youth to ask their relatives about it.

“I think the best people who can explain it to them are the relatives who went through it,” Marcos Jr. said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

“We have explained it. We have been explaining it for 40 years already, and I explain it by saying that the situation at that time was dire. We were fighting war on two fronts,” he added.
