MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared PDP-Laban and Nacionalista Party as dominant majority and minority parties, respectively, in this year’s polls.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10787, being named dominant majority and minority parties come with perks in the conduct of the election.

“The watchers of the dominant majority and dominant minority party shall be given preference, if the space in the canvassing/consolidation centers is insufficient,” according to the Comelec resolution dated May 4 but was only released to the media on Thursday.

PDP-Laban and Nacionalista Party were backing the presidential bid of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Also, the Comelec recognized 10 political organizations as “major” political parties, namely: Liberal Party, Aksyon Demokratiko, Nationalist People’s Alliance, Lakas CMD, Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma, National Unity Party, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Akbayan, and the United Nationalist Alliance.

PDP-Laban factions

The resolution, however, did not indicate which wing of the PDP-Laban was the dominant majority party.

Comelec said the two PDP-Laban factions – one led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and another led by Sen. Koko Pimentel – have both applied for accreditation as the dominant majority party, thus, PDP-Laban “shall be treated as one single political party for purposes of determining the dominant majority party.”
