TACLOBAN CITY—At least 10 supporters of presidential candidate Ka Leody de Guzman were detained in Ormoc City, Leyte for holding a rally allegedly without permit at a village plaza last May 1, Labor Day.
Detained were Richard Impas, 37, and village chair of Lake Danao; Jesus Catantan, 48; Marilyn Monte, 53; Jennelyn Malate, 48; Xerxes Solon, 45, and senior high teacher; John Paul Pradilla, 22; Albert Tabanao, 20; Alvin Torejano, 24; Marlex Baroza, 20 and Dandy Codilla, 27.
Bail was recommended at P6,000 for each of those arrested who are facing charges of violating the Public Assembly Act of 1985.
As of Tuesday (May 3), the 10 were still at the Ormoc City jail as bail has yet to be paid.
According to police in Palo town, Leyte province the group was arrested by policemen, led by Maj. Michael Duran, while at a rally that had no permit from the city government and the Commission on Elections.
The police report said the group was calling for support for De Guzman, a labor leader, and demanding a wage increase while asking passersby to join the rally.
Friends and relatives of the arrested individuals were raising funds for their bail.
