MANILA, Philippines — A trip to Tagaytay will now take less travel time, with less time in traffic, and less stress. Senatorial aspirant and former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar vows to push for the completion and continuation of the 8.59-kilometer Tagaytay Bypass Road.

“These two sections are only the beginning as we have been prioritizing the inclusion of this project in the national budget since 2018, hanggang ngayon po ay patuloy parin akong nakaalalay sa proyektong ito. Once completed, the Tagaytay Bypass Road will reduce travel time from Alfonso to Tagaytay to only 20 minutes saving as much as 33 minutes from the usual 53 minutes,” Villar said.

Through Department Order No. 88, series of 2020, Villar said that new national road and bridge construction or future expansion of projects shall incorporate a bicycle facility contingent on the prevailing road and traffic conditions, but will have no less than 2.44 meters of bicycle path width.

“The initial 1.54-kilometer road segment was opened last October 2020, the Maitim and Kaybagal Section of the ongoing 4-lane Tagaytay Bypass Road Project in Cavite. The entire stretch of this project will also have a separate bike lane, in compliance with Department Order 88 Series of 2020 which requires the inclusion of bike lanes in all future national roads and bridges projects,” Villar said in the statement.

Aside from the Maitim and Kaybagal Section, DPWH is currently implementing road opening and concreting at the 746-meter Balagbag Section, road opening of 1.32-kilometer Salaban Section – road concreting of 590-meter Guinhawa Section; and road opening and concreting of 580-meter Patuto Section 3.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa ating mga kababayan na nagtitiwala sa ating kakayahan at sa ating mga adhikain, patuloy akong naka suporta sa pagsasagawa ng mga road and bridge infrastructures na magbibigay daan sa atin na makapag bigay ng trabaho sa ating mga kababayan,” Villar ended.

With the reopening of the city of Tagaytay to tourists amid the pandemic, those that wish to travel to the popular destination can now use a portion of this bypass road.
