LUCENA CITY––A coconut vendor died while his 7-year-old son was wounded Thursday, April 28, after an unidentified assailant shot them in Sariaya town, Quezon province.

Quezon police reported that Edmar Samarita, 38, was travelling with his son aboard a tricycle when the gunman appeared and repeatedly shot them at 7:40 p.m. in Barangay Montecillo.

The killer escaped while Samarita died on the spot, police said.

Investigators said the son, who suffered bullet wounds, was rushed to the Lucena United Doctors Hospital for treatment.

Master Sergeant Gerardo Eballa, case investigator, said Samarita had no criminal record.

The police were conducting further investigation to identify the assailant and the motive behind the attack.
