PNP checks equipment ahead of May 9 elections
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday conducted a “showdown inspection and logistical readiness test” of police equipment they will use for security operations during the elections on May 9.
PNP chief Dionardo Carlos said they did this to assure the public of the “readiness of police units to perform election duty as deputized agents of the Commission on Election.”
“Twelve days ahead of the elections, all PNP units in the country have been doubling efforts to ensure the safety in the polling centers,” he said in a statement.
“We will ensure that enough policemen and women will be deployed on polling precincts to guarantee the safety of the voting public, and election officials, and to enforce minimum health protocols,” he added.
The checking of police equipment was held simultaneously in all Police Regional Offices and Provincial Police Offices across the country, Carlos noted.
The PNP chief further said it will be sending off transportation, security, communication, and other mission-essential equipment ahead of the elections on May 9 “to improve the capability of police units on the ground to ensure a fair, honest, safe, and secure elections.”
